Find a maple syrup festival this weekend
Looking for something to do with the kids on March Break? If you’re within 500 kilometres or so of the Great Lakes, try to find a maple syrup festival.
We took the kids to Bronte Creek last Saturday. To me, starting the day with pancakes, maple syrup and breakfast sausages is pretty much living the dream. Then we walked it off on a short but sweet historical tour of Maple Lane where 1890s-costumed interpreters explained the history and process of maple syrup making.
Finally, we watched maple sugar and maple taffy demonstrations, enjoyed samples, bought some syrup at the gift shop and toured the century-old Spruce Lane Farmhouse. We even bought a spigot and pail for our own backyard maple tree. Never thought I’d add “empty the sap bucket” to my daughter’s list of chores.
The Bronte Creek Maple Syrup Festival runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 pm each weekend in March and every day during March Break (March 15-19). For more info, visit the Bronte Creek website.
