Abraham the Poor!
Never expected I’d be discovering new music through Twitter, but @abethepoor followed me this week and when I checked out the website I found this little gem of an EP.
Here’s a YouTube video of their song Future Homes which has this great voice-over part in the EP.
Elvis! Alive and well at Massey Hall.
The great Mr. Declan McManus recorded live in August 2009. (There’s so much great stuff at CBC Radio’s Concerts on Demand.)

This page is dedicated to sharing the best music I’ve been listening to lately. Some of that music is coming from my own neice, Bethany Klapwyk. Bethany started writing songs just a couple of years ago and at the tender age of 21, she’s already become an amazing singer-songwriter. Here she is performing with her friend Maria in the 2nd Annual Guelph Songwriters Competition. If you live in the Guelph area, you can catch Bethany when she performs in the finals on Tuesday, April 6, at Frank & Steins. Or you can catch her at her CD Release concert on Thursday, April 8. Someone’s gotta get this girl into a studio.

If you’ve come to this page you’re probably already listening to my Jango Jukebox, which features a bunch of the artists I’ve been listening to lately. This is a customized widget available at Jango (a lot like Pandora, which isn’t available in Canada). Just click on any artist if you want to hear a song. And send me a comment if you’re listening to something else you think I’ll like.
I’ve been listening to other good stuff lately, too. Check some of this out if you have a chance:
- William Fitzsimmons. I happened across his song Passion Play on Good Friday morning. Great song.
- Peter Gabriel’s new album of covers, Scratch My Back. It’s completely orchestral. No guitar. No drums. Lot’s of piano and strings. You can sample the whole thing here.
- Tristan Prettyman. Most random way I’ve discovered a new artist — she retweeted me on Twitter. Watch this VEVO video where she performs a song with G. Love: “Beautiful” by G Love featuring Tristan Prettyman.
- Radio 2 Drive. An afternoon CBC radio show designed to make your commute a little more bearable. Wish I had this when I was commuting. Mix of singer/songwriters, roots and urban music.
- Concerts on Demand. Another great offering from CBC Radio 2. An archive of hundreds of great Canadian concerts.
